Serving suggestions
This rich, deeply fruity red is made purely from Shiraz, with a portion aged in barrel to lend gentle notes of toasty spice to complement the blackberry and liquorice character.

Description
Monte León is a luscious, mouthfilling red made from the trendiest red grape of Chile right now. Originally from the Rhône, Shiraz has recently been particularly successful in South America, on both sides of the Andes: "Syrah is showing immense promise," wrote Simon Woods, "The excitement about Syrah in Chile is palpable," raved Decanter.

Winemaker for this red is Cesar Morales (affectionately known as 'the bear') guided by consultant Alvaro Spinoza, who was awarded 'Personality of the Year' at the prestigious International WINE Challenge in 2007. He has been one of the world's leading experts on organic and bio-dynamic viticulture too and his services are very much in demand in Chile. Monte León is from the acclaimed Emiliana cellar with 30 medals from the Decanter Wine Competition alone.

The wine takes its name from león (Spanish for lion), which Chileans refer to as a Puma. This shy, solitary Andean hunter is rarely seen, giving rise to rumours and stories of his bold and cunning character. He is so admired that a number of Chilean hills and lakes are named after him. Monte León (Lion Mountain) is one of the mountains that overlooks Emiliana's prestigious vineyards of Totihue.

This rich, deeply fruity red is made purely from Shiraz, with a portion aged in barrel to lend gentle notes of toasty spice to complement the blackberry and liquorice character.
