Description
Whilst the wines of the southern Rhone are made from a Grenache based blend, those of the northern Rhone are made purely from Syrah, and are the finest expression of this variety in the world. Cornas is one of the lesser-known regions of the northern Rhone, and consequently can be a treasure trove for bargain hunters!

This fine example is from Domaine Fauterie, a small property based in St Peray, about a mile to the south of Cornas. 2004 was a classic vintage for the region, as Wine Spectator notes: "the Syrah based reds of the Northern Rhone show elegant profiles in 2004."

Spicy tobacco and cassis aromas with rich blackcurrant fruit flavours combined with notes of liquorice, smoke and spice. Serve with rich game dishes such as woodcock, partridge or pheasant, or other red meat dishes.
