Serving suggestions
Very drinkable on its own, Grand Gaillard makes a very suitable partner to sauced white meats, fish pie, seared salmon steak or a creamy vegetable pie with a crisp pastry topping.

Description
Bergerac lies just east of Bordeaux, straddling the Dordogne river. It enjoys a similar climate, grows the same grapes and produces wines of a very similar style to its neighbour. Yet, without all the grand château trappings and the vaunted reputation, its wines offer excellent value for money. Monbazillac is its most famous 'sweetie', but it also produces crisp, elegant whites and excellent, claret-style reds. Wine critic Andrew Jefford wrote of the region: "Bergerac's greatest wines consistently outshine their Bordeaux competitors at twice the price."

Grand Gaillard is from award-winning Lionel Condeau, who is head of winemaking at the Cave de Sigoulès. He was delighted with the quality of the white grapes in 2007, describing them as "magnificent, even extraordinary."

Grand Gaillard is a classic white Bordeaux blend of Sémillon (the majority) with its broad honeyed peach and herbaceous character, while a portion of Sauvignon Blanc lends a zip of citrussy freshness. All the grapes are harvested from vines a quarter of a century old, so yields are naturally kept low and flavour in the fruit is well concentrated.
