This white lends itself well as an apéritif. Food partners might include traditional antipasti, fennel risotto or ribollita - a traditional white bean soup. More simply try with grilled white fish.

Description
Italy is one of the most exciting places in Europe to search for wine. It has a wealth of indigenous grape varieties, one of the richest on the continent, and a great variety of climates and landscape for growing vines. It takes a little application to get to grips with its maze of different DOCGs, DOCs and IGT areas, but certainly repays the effort. Venezie lies in Italy's northeastern corner and includes wines that come from either Trentino, Alto Adige, the Veneto and Friuli Grave. Due to its northerly latitude, it wines, both red and white, tend to be fresh and lively.

This tasty, crisp white is from Maurizio Biscardo, a highly experienced Italian winemaker whose family cellar lies in the Veneto. He has created Colombella very much in the style of Italy's most classic of white wines, Soave. It is made from Garganega, Italy's fifth most widely planted white grape and the most important variety of the DOC wine, usually making up 70 to 100% of Soave.

The fruit for Colombella was harvested from two estates - both owned by the Biscardo family. At Borghetto, the soil is very stony and the diurnal difference in temperature is great, so the grapes are highly perfumed. At the Ronaldo estate, the soil is richer and the grapes tend to be more fruity. Added to this was a portion of the world's most popular white grape, Pinot Grigio, which lends a little creaminess and spice.
