Valencia is Spain's largest port, its third most important city and capital of the Valencia region. With pleasant beaches, streets lined with orange trees and a lovely mediterranean climate, its the Summer get-way destination of choice for the people of Madrid.
Valencia is also the home of Spain's national dish, paella. No surprise when you learn its Europe's largest rice producer with the most extensive paddyfields outside of Asia. And of course the area has a long and impressive history of wine production too. As early as the 17th century, King Felipe VI demanded residents pay a special tax on local wines due to their superior quality.
Merseguera is the main white grape of the region though Valencia is better known for its fragrant Malvasia and Moscatel. You will also find here the sherry grape Pedro Ximénez. Red varieties include the native Monastrell, Garnacha Tintorera and its cousin Garnacha Tinta while plantings of international stars Cabernet, Merlot and Chardonnay are on the rise.
This refreshing, aromatic blend of Malvasia and Moscatel is made by award-winning Winemaker Juan Pico Lozano at the Baronia de Turis cellar which was founded in 1920.
