Description
Since Australia arrived on the international wine stage, its winemakers have been championing the (unholy - that is in France anyway!) alliance of Bordeaux's herbaceous, honey-edged Sémillon and Burgundy's hallowed creamy, smooth Chardonnay.

It certainly seems to hit the right balance of freshness and fruitiness in this wine. And just for good measure The Regent also has a splash of Italy's native Trebbiano (good for its brisk, lemony crispness) and Verdelho which gives the wine a boost of lime-spiked fruit with just a hint of spice. Cool fermentation and early bottling has ensured all the freshness is sealed in.

Harley-Riding Bob Berton is the man we have to thank for this wine - an old mate in Riverina, New South Wales, who also keeps his ear close to the ground. He has owned a cellar in Riverina since 2006, but he discovered this wine for us at the little Ral Ral Creek winery in Renmark and we loved its ripe, fruity style. Ral Ral is aboriginal for 'red mud' and refers to the soil of the area.
