Description
"Vineyard heaven" is how Decanter magazine described Chile, a country blessed with excellent terroir, climate, fashionable grape varieties often grown on ungrafted vines (the majority of the world's vines are grafted onto American rootstocks to protect them from the root-munching phylloxera beetle), and supported by extremely high tech wineries and impressive financial backing. As a result, Chile has, in the last two decades, become a great vinous success.

One of the very best winemakers in the whole country is Adolfo Hurtado who weaves his magic at a premium cellar in the Colchagua Valley. Adolfo has been awarded 'Winemaker of the Year' four times now, most recently in 2008.

He is a meticulous craftsman in every aspect of his work and with enormous reserves of energy - he needs it with five children too! He also has a great regard for the environment, giving his workers bikes to get to and from work and around the large expanse of vineyards. He has guided the cellar to be the first Carbon Neutral winery in Chile too.

In 2002, the cellar won six Golds at the International Challenge du Vin, plus four trophies at the Citadelles du Vin. The estate works with grapes from many of Chile's Central Valley vineyards and specialises in particular in Pinot Noir. This lively white is pure leafy Sauvignon Blanc, fermented at a low temperature and bottled early to capture maximum fruit and freshness.
