Description
Harman's Road is a top-quality, oak-fermented, barrel-matured white from premium Western Australia. Indeed, Margaret River is its most famous area, with an enviable reputation for elegant, cool-climate wines that age magnificently. Considering this 'appellation' only contributes 2.5% of Australia's overall production, its wines receive much more than their fair share of media attention.

It was only in 1965 that eminent WA agronomist Dr John Gladstone gave a report extolling the region's virtues for grape production. A year later, an experimental vineyard was planted, then the year after the famous Vasse Felix estate was founded and remains the region's most prestigious. The key to its success is the cooling effect of the Indian and Southern oceans.

Harman's Road is from one of Margaret River's most prestigious wineries. In the past two years, it has scooped 21 top international golds, plus much media praise. They offered us this special, one-off parcel of wine on condition that we didn't name them, so as not to upset their regular customers. It was at a time when there was a surplus of premium wine in Australia - a situation that is sadly no more the case since the drought year of 2007. This sumptuously rich, yet refined, white was first barrel-fermented, then aged in new French oak casks to give a real feel of luxury - indeed, this wine is a must for Burgundy lovers with its subtle oak marrying with the smooth, creamy peach fruit.
