Edward's Lake is a pure, unoaked Chardonnay that strikes a lovely balance between ripe tropical fruit and crisp acidity. As Harvey Steiman of Wine Spectator writes "Increasingly, the best (Australian) Chardonnays are homing in on a less oak-driven, more minerally style". Edwards Lake comes firmly into this category.
The wine was made at the Warburn Estate, which like many wineries in Australia's inland growing regions, was founded by Italian immigrants in the early 20th century. Today, owner Antonia Sergi is at the helm of a thriving business, with many press accolades to attest the quality of his wines. The estate still retains its family roots however - the heart of the business being the large kitchen table around which all the real decisions are made!
Edward's Lake is a personal project of Warburn Estate's chief winemaker, Sam Trimboli, a fellow Italian who each year wins literally hundreds of awards for his creations. The grapes were sorted twice by hand - once in the vineyard and again at the winery - to ensure that every grape going into the fermentation vats was 100% ripe and healthy. Such uncommon attention to detail has really paid off - you can taste the fabulous ripeness and purity of fruit in this wine.
