Description
De Bortoli is one of the best-loved family wineries in all Australia. Founded in 1928 in Griffith, New South Wales, they now also own a cellar and vineyards in the premium Hunter and Yarra Valleys. Every year, they garner a huge number of awards, including in 2007 two for 'Winery of the Year' from critics Stuart Gregor and Peter Forrestall in his book Quaff. Gregor wrote of them "This is a family winery that is showing the way forward. Every winery in Australia could learn some thing from De Bortoli." In 2004, he awarded them the same accolade writing "through their entire range ... value for money is always paramount. You can't go past a De Bortoli wine for a sure thing." Their most famous wine is Noble One, a tremendous sweetie, that garners over ten awards each vintage.

Named after the founder of Griffith where the main winery is situated, William Bull (ie Bill Bull), Bilbul is an unusual combination of the highly aromatic and spicy Gewurztraminer with a portion of zippy-fresh Riesling - a variety which Australia has made fashionable once more. Gewurztraminer, known here as Traminer, brings hints of rose petal, spice and lychee to the wine, while the Riesling undercuts with limy acidity.
