This is a beautifuly balanced white that's delicious on its own, but really comes into its own with pasta with a creamy mushroom sauce or chicken dishes.

Description
Black Stump White is a gloriously fresh and fruity tipple your guests will love - if you're kind enough to offer them any! Made from a unique blend of white grapes, it has become as big a hit with customers and critics as its much-loved big brother, The Black Stump red - with a Silver medal from Vinalies in Paris and a Commendation from both the International Wine Challenge and Decanter magazine as testament to its appeal.

The wine is from a remote corner in Riverina, New South Wales (hence 'Black Stump', Aussie-speak for 'back of beyond'), where Filippo and Maria Casella, an Italian couple who emigrated to Australia in the 1950s, set up a small vineyard in their new home. They brought with them three generations of winemaking experience, and before long they had a thriving business. At first, they simply sold to other wineries, but in 1969, Filippo built his own cellar on site and today his sons, John, Joe and Marcello run one of the most successful family wineries in the region - winning the ultimate accolade Down Under, the coveted Jimmy Watson Trophy, in 2004. Their Italian roots show through in the Pinot Grigio used in this wine - though it's still a rarity in Australia, the Casellas have well-established plantings.

Zingy Verdelho provides the refreshing backbone to this wine, while Chardonnay adds soft peachy notes, and Pinot Grigio adds minerally freshness and toungue-tingling notes of spiced pear.
