Description
"Wine lovers have long dreamt of a white burgundy that's not only good but affordable. Mâcon is riding to the rescue" wrote Joanna Simon of The Sunday Times. This part of Burgundy lies in the very south, just north of the granite hills of Beaujolais. Its wines have not enjoyed such a vaulted reputation as those of the Côte d'Or next door ... great news for wine lovers as it means the wines provide both excellent quality and value.

This deliciously rich, oaky white is from Domaine Dupré, a small estate (nearly all in Burgundy are pocket-sized compared to those of Bordeaux) in the north of the Mâconnais, owned by brothers Jean-Christophe and Vincent Dupré. It was founded by their grandfather, Louis Dupré, in 1929, then taken over by their father, Léon. He had six children, but only two wanted to follow in his winemaking footsteps. Jean-Christophe, the eldest, and Vincent have 20 hectares of vines all over the region, ranging in age from 10 to 45 years old. At this maturity, the vines only produce a small number of grapes, but of particularly good concentration. Chardonnay is their main grape, but they also have small parcels of Pinot Noir and Gamay.

Domaine Dupré is from an excellent vintage; high acidity in the whites have enabled them to age gracefully. This sumptuous Burgundy was both fermented and aged in oak to give the wine a real richness and complexity.
