The cool climate and foggy hillsides of the Yarra Valley are a far cry from the sunny beaches that often come to mind when we think of Oz - but while the Yarra is not a top surfing location, it's spot on for producing elegant whites.Yering Station, one of the oldest cellars in the region, is rated 'consistently outstanding' by Aussie wine expert James Halliday. It has its own restaurant, offering, as Halliday notes, "the best cuisine in the valley". It's certainly worth cooking up your favourite sauced fish or white meat dishes to match this superb white. The grapes were ripened to elegant perfection in the cool 2010 vintage, skillfully vinified by cellarmaster Willy Lunn and matured in a combination of new and slightly aged French oak.
