Pomerol lies on the Right Bank of the Dordogne River, and produces some of the most sought after wines in Bordeaux. Just next door, Lalande de Pomerol makes wines in a very similar style, and often of equal quality - especially in great years like 2009, described by critic Steven Spurrier as "the best vintage Bordeaux has ever produced". This is from Vieux Domaine Bertineau, just next door to Château La Fleur de Boüard, one of the top estates in the region. It is run by the Janoueix family, who have been involved in the Bordeaux wine trade since 1898.Matured for six months in barrel, this classic Right Bank claret is delicious now, but will take on more complex notes over the next few years. Enjoy with lamb or duck.
