Fernando Domingo

Introduction

Fernando DomingoThe remarkably talented Fernando Domingo is the winemaker of Bodegas Casa Primicia.

Fernando has been at Primicia for over a decade, but he has worked all around Spain honing his craft at many cellars - including time under the tutelage of arguably the greatest Spanish oenologist, Manuel Ruiz Hernandez.

His multi award-winning Riojas encompass many styles and various prices, but all have one thing in common - they're all incredible wines.

History

Winemaking is a family affair for Fernando, and he feels the practice was very much in his blood. His uncle and sister are fellow oenologists, and Fernando learned the ropes of winemaking studying in the Valencian province of Requena.

From there he went straight to work, building up an impressive CV via wineries all over Spain, including stints in Alicante, La Mancha - as well as in the so-called 'Empire of Garnacha', Campo de Borja in Zaragoza.

After learning the ins and outs of various terroir, grapes and winemaking techniques, Fernando arrived in Rioja. He worked in several wineries before settling in Laguardia, the capital of the hallowed Alavesa region.

It's here where Fernando has spent the last twelve years, crafting the beautiful Riojas of Bodegas Casa Primicia.

Fernando feels that he has found the most exciting place to work and is striving constantly to achieve the finest results he can: "In the heart of the rising Rioja Alavesa, there are plenty of opportunities to improve, to experiment, to grow. It has a special microclimate, fantastic terrain - it's the subject of hundreds of studies around the wine world... it's a really nice place to develop all your potential."

Fernando's work has earned lavish praise in Spain and beyond. His collection of accolades comes from all corners of the wine world - and for anyone who's tasted the purity of fruit and deft oak notes of his wines, it's not hard to see why!
