Tony Jordan

Introduction

Tony JordonWinemaking legend Dr Tony Jordan has been a friend of ours since the 1980s, when he helped us start our pioneering 'Flying Winemakers' project.

Today, he helps us source exclusive parcels of fine wine from the very best in Australia and New Zealand.

Tony's credentials are phenomenal. He's been a winemaker, consultant, judge and lecturer. He was CEO of a number of wine companies - including New Zealand's most famous wine, Cloudy Bay, and currently his company, Oenotec Pty.

He is also establishing a new fine wine label in partnership with his long time friend and colleague John Belsham.

History

Tony graduated from Sydney University before completing a PhD in Chemical Physics. His early career included research science in the USA and UK and a Lectureship in Wine Chemistry and then Oenology.

He then became a managing partner in the Oenotec company, where he began his distinguished consultancy career. Tony also helped establishing the prestigious Wine Science course at Australia's Charles Sturt University in Australia.

In 1987, Tony became Managing Director and Winemaker for Australia's Domaine Chandon - part of the Moet Hennessy group, with whom he would work for 21 years. Having had his role expanded to worldwide consultancy for Chandon's wines, he was appointed CEO of Cloudy Bay and Cape Mentelle.

Tony is now a board Member of The Australian Wine and Brandy Corporation, President of the Yarra Valley Wine Growers Association and past President of the Australian Society of Viticulture and Oenology.

His winemaking and consultancy CV is matched in impressiveness by his judging credentials - he has spent the last 25 years judging at all national and most regional wine shows in Australia, as well as the UK's Decanter Awards, the Trophy Wine Show in South Africa, Winpac in Hong Kong and the Easter Show in New Zealand - to name but a few!
