Neil Pike

Neil is one of the most hotly-tipped winemakers in Australia’s Clare Valley. Along with his brother Andrew, he crafts superb wines that have won feverish acclaim throughout the wine world. His particular talent is Riesling – the grape that thrives best in Clare’s high-altitude climate. According to The Daily Mail, Pikes is home to “the finest Rieslings in Australia.” In spite of this enormous reputation, Neil remains about as pleasant and modest a bloke as you could hope to meet. In his own words, he’s “not one for blowing my own trumpet”, and is always looking to his next vintage.

My particular weakness is blockbuster Australian reds. I may succumb regularly to their wines but when you talk cricket and rugby my loyalty is for the Boks. Wine is a metaphor for life.
