Along with Piedmont, Tuscany is Italy's most prestigious wine region and Chianti is its most famous red. After the Classico heartland, Rufina is one of its finest areas. There you'll find the Masi estate - an ancient enclave of low yielding Sangiovese vines set among ancient olive trees and roamed by a few wild boar - useful for tasty sausages! Paolo is now the third generation of his family to run the property and, in the words of wine guide Gambero Rosso, his wines show "irreproachably clean, fresh fruit and abundant personality". He works unstintingly in both the vineyard and the cellar to use the best methods to produce outstanding wines. His Chianti is a dream with pork casserole, meaty fish like tuna, or with a wild mushroom risotto.
