As the retro label suggests, Chante-Clair is as authentically French as Asterix, Gauloises and the café accordion - yet it also embraces the best of modern winemaking. Its award winning creator Hervé Sabardeil (praised by Decanter and Wine Spectator) selects Merlot, Carignan and Syrah from growers he knows and trusts across his native southern France. Fermenting them in batches, he then assembles the parts to create the perfect balance of luscious red fruit and smooth tannins. This delicious blast from the past (with all the benefits of 21st century know how) has previously wowed French wine judges, and we reckon this latest release is even better. Spot on with French bistro fare: confit de canard, cassoulet, or a hearty pot au feu.
