Barolo in Piedmont makes one of the country's most acclaimed reds, all from the Nebbiolo grape. They age magnificently, too. Monsparone is the superb craftsmanship of Bruno Cordero. Born locally, near Alba, he is now chief at the Terre da Vino winery, and brings a modern twist to his wines. For this Barolo, this means you don't have to wait a decade to drink it!Riservas are only made in the best vintages, and 2004 was certainly one of those. This powerful red had a full three years (two is the norm) in oak to broaden and mellow the flavours. The result, Monsparone Riserva, is an opulent yet elegant wine with a complex aroma, a web of intricate flavours and well integrated tannins. Best enjoyed with roast red meats, hearty stew or game.
