Ridgeview Wine Estate was founded by Mike Roberts in 1994 and is dedicated to creating world class sparkling wines on the South Downs of England. Indeed, the soil is the exact same chalk/clay mix as found in Champagne and, with a similar climate, no wonder Mike can grow such great Chardonnay and Pinot grapes. Such has been his success that several big Champagne houses have made overtures to buy the property - but Mike is having none of it.He named this wine after an Englishman, Christopher Merret, who presented a paper to the Royal Society in London documenting the process of making traditional method sparkling wines - some 30 years before the Champenois discovered it!Delicious on its own or with lightly smoked fish, oysters or canapés.
