Straddling the Dordogne river, the Bergerac region enjoys a similar climate, grows the same grapes, and produces wines of a very similar style to its neighbour Bordeaux. Yet, without all the grand château trappings and the vaunted reputation, its wines offer excellent value for money. This crisp, intensely flavoured white was made by award winning Lionel Condeau, head of winemaking at the Cave de Sigoulès. He selected grapes from vines a quarter of a century old, so yields were naturally low and flavour in the fruit was superbly concentrated. With Sémillon's round, lemon and passionfruit flavours boosted by the zingy lemon and grassy fruit of Sauvignon, the wine is delicious on its own and superb with a wide range of seafood.
