Finca Villacreces is a prime property located in Ribera's 'Golden Mile'. Robert Parker gave their 2008 91 Points and fellow Wine Advocate critic Jay Miller counted it among the top Spanish wines under 15 euros. Considering the property adjoins Vega Sicilia, producer of iconic wines selling for £175 a bottle, it's hard to disagree. Angel Ortega - the man behind Pruno - has 15 years' experience at legendary Rioja house Izadi.'Pruno' relates to the Japanese cherry tree - a metaphor Angel wanted to bring to his Ribera on account of the cherry like flavours and floral freshness of the wine. The 2009 blends Tempranillo, Cabernet and Merlot aged 12 months in seasoned French oak. A thrilling accompaniment to grilled chops and winter casseroles.
