Tokaji is Hungary's most noble wine, with 400 years of history and royal patronage. This splendid wine is among its sweetest styles. If you enjoy the intensity of Sauternes, brace yourself for something even richer.Predating Bordeaux's Sauternes, Tokaji was the first wine to be knowingly made from 'nobly rotten' grapes (that is, those affected by a natural, dehydrating and flavour-enhancing fungus). The Royal Tokaji Company is an Anglo-Hungarian consortium formed after the fall of Communism, which has played a major part in Tokaji's resurgence. Over half its vineyards are First or Second Growth, which accounts for the exceptional quality.Best appreciated by itself, though a fine accompaniment to tarte tatin or freshly cracked walnuts.
