We first met Julián Murúa and his son Javier at their family estate in Rioja, Bodegas Muriel, and were delighted with the quality we found there, so, naturally, when they told us they also had a modern cellar in La Mancha - a vast chalky plain in central Spain with very reliable sunshine - we were keen to investigate. It didn't take long to realise we had hit gold, as we tasted through a range of delightfully fresh and fruity modern-style wines. This pure Cabernet Sauvignon was fermented at a controlled temperature to retain all the attractive, soft-berry flavour, then bottled unoaked to allow the fruit flavours to shine. Enjoy as a tasty glass on its own or with midweek favourites like sausages and mash, pepperoni pizza or lamb chops.
