With its plentiful sunshine and temperate climate, Cahul in Moldova has ideal conditions for whites, providing a long, slow ripening season not unlike that of the cooler parts of Burgundy and the Loire. What's more, the soils and plants are almost entirely pest free due to a biting wind, which either freezes or blows any trouble away. This crisp white is from a modern winery equipped with temperature controlled fermentation vats - still a rarity in these parts. Aided by our own expert winemaker Jean-Marc Sauboua, the cellar has reaped a string of awards over the last decade. With its fresh peach and zingy lemon character, Albastrele Chardonnay makes a most elegant glass on its own. It's also great with salmon or white meats.
