Founded in the 18th century, Domaine Mersiol is on the outskirts of the pretty medieval village of Dambach-la-Ville (think winding alleys, colombage houses and colourful geraniums). Extending to just 12.5 hectares, it produces only a small quantity of wines on a myriad of complex terroir. Grapes are grown organically and will soon be certified biodynamic. Of utmost importance is respect for the soil and the environment. The entire vineyard is considered one living organism and its health determines the health of the grapes and therefore purity of flavour in the wine. With elegant notes of citrus and grapefruit, the classic, minerally Riesling should be enjoyed with fish and white meats, especially pork served with Alsace choucroute.
