S.Y stands for Syrah, the beloved variety of the northern Rhône and, in this instance, also a fine grape of the Minervois. Tony Laithwaite was one of the first to bring estate bottled Minervois into the UK in the 1970s - not the anonymous blended stuff that gave the wine trade such a bad name back then. His was the real thing. To be labelled Minervois a wine can't be pure Syrah - it must contain some Grenache at the very least. That's the rule! So when we discovered this fine pure Syrah from one of the top crus - Laure Minervois - the appellation had to go out the window and S.Y was born. And while we were breaking the rules, we've added a splash of Roussillon Syrah for even greater weighty depth. It's the perfect choice to serve with lamb.
